Bill Powers, president of the University of Texas at Austin, is staying in that job for the time being.

UT System Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa announced his recommendation at this afternoon鈥檚 meeting of the Board of Regents in Austin. Cigarroa said he has had conflicts with Powers, but hopes that they can be overcome.

鈥淭here are problems,鈥 he said. "I鈥檝e addressed these problems. And it is my hopeful expectation that together President Powers and I will work towards resolving them and moving ahead.鈥

Board of Regents Chairman Paul Foster concluded the meeting by saying he hoped the controversy would soon be a memory and saying there would be no action today on the matter of President Powers鈥 employment.

It was the first time Powers' employment has been directly put before the Board of Regents. See more on the subject in KUT's report from earlier today, " ."
