The is expected to draw thousands to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, which will be a prime spot for viewing. The rare celestial event will take place on April 8, and several eclipse-watching parties are already planned. Check back for additions to this list as more events are announced. See individual websites for schedule changes and other updates, and visit for more events.


FREE - The viewing event will feature multiple solar and space experts, including Neil deGrasse Tyson, who will share their knowledge and insights. There will also be telescope viewings led by amateur astronomers, live programming from the PBS kids show Ready, Jet, Go!, and information booths from local STEM organizations and schools. Admission is free but registration is required.

April 8 at the Cotton Bowl in Fair Park, Dallas. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., event starts at 9:30 a.m.


A ticket to the Dallas Zoo on April 8 gives visitors the chance to experience the solar event and see how the animals react. There will be educators in the Zoo North and Wilds of Africa areas to interact with guests, hands-on eclipse activities, and eclipse-themed snacks like homemade moon pies. A live feed of NASA鈥檚 eclipse coverage will screen on TVs throughout the zoo. Eclipse glasses will be available to purchase while supplies last.

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science is partnering with the Carnegie Institution for Science to present a fun and safe day of eclipse viewing. There will be more than 20 astronomers at the event, which will include STEM activities, games and live music. Eclipse glasses will be provided. Guests are invited to explore the museum鈥檚 exhibits, purchase food from food trucks or bring their own picnic.

April 8 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, 2201 N. Field St., Dallas. $25 for adults, $15 for youths. Tickets on sale Dec. 15. .


Downtown Dallas Inc., in partnership with The Dallas Morning News, presents a weekend of eclipse special events around downtown. Events are free to attend.

  • Video Art Night With Aurora - Enjoy video art projections, live music, Topo Chico samples and a cash bar in the center of downtown. April 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Pegasus Plaza, 1500 Main St., Dallas.
  • Solar Stroll - Take a walking tour of downtown Dallas landmarks. April 6 from noon to 3 p.m. starting at Main Street Garden, 1902 Main St., Dallas.
  • Wellness Day features a goat yoga session at 10 and 11:30 a.m. and a Solar City Cycle at 3 and 4:15 p.m. Both events take place April 7 at Harwood Park, 408 S. Harwood, Dallas.
  • Solar Eclipse Watch Party - Gather at Main Street Garden for an eclipse watch party on April 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Main Street Garden, 1902 Main St., Dallas. Admission is free with .


A watch party in the Dallas Arts District features the Reveler鈥檚 Hall Band marching through Sammons Park and live music on stage at 1 p.m. Eclipse glasses, courtesy of AT&T Performing Arts Center, are complimentary while supplies last.

Guests will have panoramic views of the Dallas skyline and the eclipse from the 9th floor of the Tru by Hilton in the Design District. There will be specialty beverages and bites. Reserve a spot with an $8 donation to for STEM scholarships.

April 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sky Blu Rooftop, Hilton Market Center, Ninth Floor, 1949 N Stemmons Fwy, Dallas.


Monarch, the wood-fired modern Italian restaurant atop the National building in downtown Dallas, hosts a lunch and viewing party. After a three-course lunch at noon, guests can move to Kessaky on the 50th floor to witness the solar event.

Guests can watch the celestial event on the 26th floor Constellation Club in Las Colinas. A lunch buffet and eclipse glasses are included. Members can RSVP on the membership app while guests can purchase tickets online.

RoughRiders team members will be on hand for this solar eclipse watch party. A live band will keep the party going until the big event. Price of admission includes eclipse glasses and a voucher for a RoughRiders opening week game, April 9-14.

April 8 at Riders Field, 7300 Rough Riders Trl, Frisco. Gates open at 11 a.m.

Retired NASA astronaut Alvin Drew will be one of the special guests at this eclipse experience presented by the Dallas Arboretum with partners from the International Space Station National Laboratory, Big Kid Science, the University of North Texas and others. Eclipse viewing glasses and a commemorative poster can be added on when ordering tickets.

All seven campuses in Dallas County will host watching parties with free eclipse glasses. April 8 at Brookhaven, Cedar Valley, Eastfield, El Centro, Mountain View, North Lake and Richland campuses.


FREE - A viewing party in historic downtown Ennis will feature live music, food trucks and children鈥檚 activities. Pre-parties will take place April 6-7. ; fees vary.

This family-friendly eclipse party takes place at Samuell Farm, a 609-acre park operated by the Dallas Park and Recreation department. Overnight camping will be offered, and a pre-party is planned on April 7. Tickets will be available in March.

The Village is holding a Solar Eclipse Watch Party, with activities including live music from pianist Christian Valdes, who鈥檚 known for his classical and jazz melodies, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Then DJ Luis Reyes will spin chill tech house and lo-fi music on the Anise Patio from 3 to 5 p.m. Food and drink specials will be available for purchase. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own lawn chair, blanket and eclipse glasses.

April 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Village鈥檚 Glen Lawn, 5605 Village Glen Drive, Dallas. Free for Village residents, $5 for the general public. Eclipse glasses will be available for $10, or get glasses and a lawn chair for $15. .


FREE Southfork Ranch, perhaps best known for its association with the TV show Dallas, will have a free Eclipse and Sip viewing event on the mansion鈥檚 lawn. Complimentary eclipse glasses will be given to guests while supplies last. Boxed lunches will be available for $20, and a cash bar will serve $12 cocktails. Outside food and drinks are not permitted. The ranch will offer discounted tours for $14 on the day of the event.

Visit Mesquite will host Solar Rodeo, a three-day festival, to celebrate the eclipse. Organizers say that because of its location, Mesquite will receive four minutes and eight seconds in the eclipse鈥檚 totality, more than almost any other community in North Texas. Festivities will include a rodeo parade through downtown Mesquite, a performance by the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra, a Music and Moonlight Block Party and Street Dance, eclipse documentary showings at Mesquite ISD鈥檚 Russell Planetarium, and numerous viewing parties. Tejano Fest at the Solar Rodeo will features big names in Tejano music including Grupo Siggno featuring Jennifer Pe帽a, Grupo Metal featuring Chris Perez, Gary Hobbs, Marcos Orozco and Los Garcia Brothers.

FREE Sky-gazers are invited to the Lewisville SOLARbration. The family-friendly event will feature fun and games, giveaways, and food from local restaurants. A concert at Lewisville Grand Theater will feature Legacy House Band and Texas Floyd 鈥 A Tribute to Pink Floyd. Eclipse glasses will be provided.

April 8 from noon to 2 p.m. at Wayne Ferguson Plaza, 150 W. Church St., Lewisville. Free. Free parking is available along Main and Charles streets, or at Lewisville City Hall, 151 W. Church St. .


The city of Grapevine will have themed music playing on eclipse day throughout the Historic Main Street District, where guests will also have the opportunity to take pictures with costumed characters. Many local businesses and eateries are offering galactic-themed food and drink items. Glass Cactus, Grape Vine Springs Winery, and Hop and Sting are among the Grapevine venues hosting eclipse parties. The city is also offering a VIP Experience, with access to Peace Plaza and a front-row seat to live music by the Joshua Ingram Band and DJ Mike B. Three days before the eclipse, a party at historic Nash Farm will offer games and give guests a chance to learn about safe ways to view the solar event, with a craft-making session to make a pinhole camera. The Grapevine Vintage Railroad will offer the day of the eclipse, with departures at 9:50 and 11:50 a.m.

Pre-eclipse party April 5 from 10 a.m. to noon at Nash Farm, 626 Ball St., Grapevine. $5 for ages 3 and older. Free for children 2 and younger.

HG Sply Co.鈥檚 Greenville Avenue location will host a Solar Eclipse Party where guests can watch the rare solar phenomenon from the rooftop patio. The restaurant and bar will have a live DJ, photo opportunities and a limited-time drink, the $12 Lunar Libation. Made with Mount Gay Eclipse, lime, blueberry and ginger beer, the drink will be available April 6 through April 8 at the Greenville Avenue location as well as the locations in Fort Worth and Trophy Club, which also have patios for viewing the eclipse. CALLOWAY'S NURSERY WATCH PARTIES
FREE - Calloway鈥檚 Nursery will host eclipse watch parties at all of its 23 locations in Dallas-Fort Worth. The family-friendly event will include free viewing glasses and goody bags for guests. A children鈥檚 station will offer art supplies and activities.

April 8 from 1 to 2 p.m. at all Calloway鈥檚 Nursery locations in North Texas.


The Gaylord Texan Resort will host a viewing party at its Glass Cactus events venue. Family-friendly activities will include face painting and balloon art, and a DJ and strolling entertainers will be on hand. Journey tribute band Wheel in the Sky will perform. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, and safety glasses will be provided. The hotel will also offer a special Solar Eclipse Extravaganza Room Package that includes a one-night stay, two tickets to the viewing party and up to four pairs of viewing glasses.

April 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Glass Cactus at the Gaylord Texan Resort, 1501 Gaylord Trail, Grapevine. Free for hotel guests with a room, $20 for resort guests, $25 for the general public and $125 for VIP Lakeside Admission, which includes lower-level lakeview seating, a $25 food credit and two vouchers for an upcoming concert ($50 value). .


FREE - This family-friendly event hosted by the nonprofit Trinity Park Conservancy will aim to celebrate the eclipse in a fun and educational way. Astronomy experts will be on hand to explain the rare solar event, and there will be hands-on educational activities, games and more. A DJ will play music, and free eclipse glasses will be available for the first 3,000 visitors.

April 8 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Ron Kirk Pedestrian Bridge and Felix Lozada Gateway, 3118 Gulden Lane, Dallas. Reserve a spot for free at .


Be a part of the live broadcast and see the whole eclipse from the Reunion Tower lawn. Enjoy food from your favorite food trucks and a live broadcast from NBC 5 and presentation from meteorologists. The first 1000 people will receive complimentary solar eclipse glasses and vouchers to visit the GeO-Deck following the eclipse.

Texas Discovery Gardens will have a viewing program for the solar eclipse. Guests are invited to bring snacks and a picnic blanket and to find their favorite spot for viewing the eclipse from the circular lawn. At noon, educators will explain what to expect from the eclipse. And at 2 p.m., after the eclipse reaches totality around 1:40 p.m., the educators will give an explanation of what visitors just saw.

April 8 from noon to 3 p.m. at Texas Discovery Gardens, 3601 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Dallas, at Fair Park, Gate 6. The eclipse program is free with regular admission or garden membership. Admission is $12 for adults; $10 for seniors 65 and older, military, teachers, first responders and students with ID; $6 for children 4 to 12. The gardens are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. .


FREE - The city of Irving is hosting an eclipse party so big, it needs two locations. Total Eclipse in the Park will be at Levy Plaza, on the shores of Lake Carolyn in the Las Colinas Urban Center, and Heritage Park. At Levy Plaza, partygoers can don complimentary eclipse glasses and enjoy a slice of the world鈥檚 largest edible moon pie, made by Eduardo Alvarez, executive chef at the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas. They can also enjoy live music by Vegas Stars, make sunflower crowns, take selfies at special stations, get 鈥渕oon鈥 sketches and even gaze up at the sky from a stand-up paddle board or paddle boat on Lake Carolyn. It鈥檚 all free, but attendees must register at . The Heritage Park event, which is also free but requires no registration, will have a DJ, selfie stations, food trucks, free eclipse glasses while supplies last and other family-friendly activities.

April 8 from noon to 3 p.m. in two Irving locations 鈥 Levy Plaza, 501 E. Las Colinas Blvd., and Heritage Park, 217 S. Main St. .


Legacy West in Plano will host a rooftop party to celebrate the eclipse. Guests can gather on the rooftop of Garage G for family-friendly activities and to watch the celestial spectacle with the provided viewing glasses. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs. DJ Richy Smart will spin some tunes, and food and drinks will be available for purchase.

FREE - The Colony will host a free eclipse party at Stewart Creek Park with viewing stations, crafts and free solar glasses while supplies last. The event is sponsored by The Colony Convention and Visitors Bureau, The Colony Public Library and The Colony Parks and Recreation. 鈥淚t really is a once-in-a-lifetime event,鈥 library director Megan Charters said in a news release. 鈥淲e鈥檒l have a lot of educational material about the science behind the event, and it鈥檒l be presented in such a way that it鈥檚 accessible and easy to understand for all ages, children through adults.鈥 A scale model of the solar system will be set up with facts about the sun and planets, and solar telescopes and other educational tools will be available.

April 8 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Stewart Creek Park, 3700 Sparks Road, The Colony. Park gates will open at 11:30 a.m. .

SKY-WATCHING AT SMU
FREE - Southern Methodist University will have telescopes and experts positioned at various sites around its campus to improve the eclipse-viewing experience for the community. Members of the physics department will explain the science behind the eclipse and deliver short talks in the rotunda of Dallas Hall from 11 a.m. to noon on the day of the eclipse. Then they鈥檒l project the eclipse onto a screen in the rotunda while guests are served eclipse cookies frosted in black and white. Viewing glasses will be provided at three designated outdoor viewing areas on campus: the Late Fountain plaza east of the Dedman Life Sciences Building; Dallas Hall Lawn, which will have telescopes set up as well as supplies to make a pinhole camera for safe viewing; and Sculpture Plaza at the Meadows Museum. The Meadows Museum is hosting Total Eclipse of the Art on the Sculpture Plaza from noon to 2:30 p.m. to focus on how the eclipse will change shadows reflected by artwork and landscaping there.

MOUNT GAY RUM ECLIPSE PARTY
FREE - Kitchen + Kocktails in Dallas will be the site of a free eclipse viewing party hosted by Mount Gay Rum, the world鈥檚 oldest commercial rum distillery. The brand鈥檚 heritage blend, Mount Gay Eclipse, was named after the 1910 total solar eclipse that was visible from Barbados, where the company was established in 1703. Brand ambassador Lauren Trickett will be on hand for the celebration, which will offer guests a chance to drink Mount Gay Eclipse cocktails and the company鈥檚 signature Total Eclipse cocktail.

April 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kitchen + Kocktails in the Hart Building, 1933 Elm St., Dallas. .

SOLAR COASTER AT SIX FLAGS
Six Flags Over Texas will hold a Solar Coaster viewing event, in which visitors can enjoy a limited selection of rides before and after watching the eclipse. The rides will shut down before the totality so that guests can watch the eclipse and the amusement park鈥檚 combined fireworks and drone show, which will begin about five minutes before totality and pause once the eclipse reaches totality. Add-ons such as eclipse glasses and commemorative T-shirts will be available for an additional charge.

April 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Six Flags Over Texas, 2201 Road to Six Flags, Arlington. Admission starts at $19.61 per person, with various add-ons available for purchase. Free for children 2 and younger. .

HILTON ANATOLE VIEWING EVENTS
The Hilton Anatole Dallas will host a viewing party on its 7-acre Sculpture Garden lawn. The hotel will offer visitors free viewing glasses along with snacks and a specialty Eclipse cocktail. The Hilton Anatole will also offer a Solar Eclipse overnight package for hotel guests, who will receive two complimentary pairs of eclipse viewing glasses and an eclipsed dome of chocolate mousse with blueberry compote. The hotel鈥檚 JadeWaters pool complex will also be open for a special eclipse viewing.

April 8 at the Hilton Anatole Dallas, 2201 N. Stemmons Freeway, Dallas. .

UNIVISION PARTY AT TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
FREE - Univision KUVN-DT (Channel 23) will host an eclipse watch party at Texas Motor Speedway. The North Texas TV station鈥檚 chief meteorologist, Nelly Carreno, will join anchor Angel Pedrero to broadcast live from outside the Li鈥檒 Texas Motor Speedway dirt track, offering commentary during the astronomical event of the year. The broadcast is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and will conclude just after 2 p.m. Attendees will receive a pair of Univision 23 Dallas/Texas Motor Speedway co-branded eclipse glasses to safely watch the solar event. Visitors will also have the opportunity to walk the pit area of Li鈥檒 Texas Motor Speedway as it hosts the first of four days of the third annual POWRi Micro Mania micro sprint car races.

April 8 at 11 a.m. at Texas Motor Speedway, 3545 Lone Star Circle, Fort Worth. Attendance and parking are free. .


FREE - The University of Texas at Arlington will host a Solar-Bration eclipse watch party with food trucks, an audio program featuring eclipse experts from the university faculty and more.

April 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UT Arlington Planetarium Mall, 700 Planetarium Place, Arlington. .


Starting at noon, guests can arrive at the 19th-floor pool bar, the highest in downtown Dallas. The chic soiree will start with a complimentary first glass of Hampton Water Ros茅 wine and passed light bites. Each guest will also receive Statler eclipse glasses to safely view the phenomenon. While eclipse totality will begin at 1:40 p.m., guests are welcome to stay and celebrate until 3 p.m. as a part of the Solar Eclipse Social experience.

April 8 starting at noon 1914 Commerce Street #19th floor of the Statler Hotel, Dallas. $35. 


From noon to 3 p.m., guests will be able to step outside, snag a pair of protective eclipse glasses, and watch this once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon among the interdimensional beings of Meow Wolf. The day (and temporary night) will include an array of unique celestial moments at Meow Wolf Grapevine. Guests can choose from a variety of activities including cyanotype paper crafting sessions, shadow puppetry, and space-age face painting. The party will also include galactic-themed food and beverages from Celestial Brewing, Nikki鈥檚 Popcorn, and Hive Bakery! Within the exhibition, guests can consult the stars with tarot readings, interactive art and more inside The Real Unreal. To participate in this event, guests simply have to reserve a ticket for April 8 at The Real Unreal. Those interested in attending the viewing party should reserve a time slot prior to noon.

Garland is directly in the path of totality, so pick up a free pair of eclipse glasses and witness the solar event of the century!
