An influx of interest for the soon-to-be appointed for Fort Worth ISD pushed the Texas Education Agency to extend its application deadline.
Those seeking to serve on the board now have until 11:59 p.m. Dec. 1 , TEA spokesperson Jake Kobersky said.
The agency has received more than 180 applications with another 800 in progress. Of the completed applications, 140 candidates live within the district.
鈥淭his overwhelming response demonstrates the community鈥檚 commitment to supporting the district鈥檚 students and their local schools,鈥� Kobersky said. 鈥淭EA will thoroughly review each application and encourages anyone with a desire to serve and the belief that all students can learn to apply.鈥�
Education Commissioner Mike Morath will appoint managers in the spring to replace FWISD鈥檚 nine locally elected trustees as part of the state taking control of the 67,500-student district. Managers will have the same powers and duties as the current trustees.
State law does not require managers to reside within a public school district鈥檚 boundaries, but Morath previously in other interventions, TEA officials said.

Trustees are by appealing the commissioner鈥檚 decision. Board President Roxanne Martinez said Nov. 18 that the appeal allows for a deeper review of the intervention.
