Children鈥檚 Medical Center Dallas will receive $18.9 million to establish a center to improve the health of foster care children.
The Rees-Jones Foundation is making the donation. An announcement is scheduled for 2 p.m. today.
Today鈥檚 pledge is in addition to an earlier $1 million gift given to Children鈥檚 from the foundation.
that the Rees-Jones Center for Foster Care Excellence will be the first center in Texas geared toward improving the health of kids in the foster care system.
The release said: 鈥淭he center鈥檚 model will bring together foster care experts in pediatrics, research and child welfare to establish three new programs: a clinical care program comprised of three foster care health clinics to serve children throughout North Texas; an academic program to conduct research and train future health professionals in best practices; and a community development program to train and raise foster care practice standards with an emphasis on recovery care.鈥�
Children's founded its Foster Care Clinic more than 20 years ago.
Children's marked its 100th anniversary earlier this year.
