To celebrate Sesame Street's , the iconic educational children's program is throwing a free family festival and stage show in downtown Dallas on July 6.
The interactive event will take place at Main Street Garden park () and include a giant maze, a treasure dig, opportunities for photos with the Sesame Street muppets, a family vacation sweepstakes and a cookies-and-milk snack station.

In addition to having fun at the festival, Big Bird, Elmo and friends will be working, too.
While in Dallas, Sesame Street will spend time filming scenes for its 50th season of the show, which will feature a primetime special that premieres in November on HBO.

Organizers with Sesame Worskshop, the nonprofit behind Sesame Street, say the taping plan is to capture what kids love about North Texas, along with visits to local landmarks and community organizations in the Dallas area.
The Dallas stop is part of the program's summertime 10-city road trip, where Sesame Street will also be celebrating and filming scenes to include in the 50th season premiere: New York City, Washington, D.C., Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City, Denver, Seattle and Los Angeles.

Sesame Workshop is launching several initiatives in relation to the like a new localized version of Sesame Street created for displaced Syrian families and their new neighbors in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. Organizers say it's part of a large-scale early childhood intervention in the region.
