The department is investigating Officer Branson Grisham for shooting at a man last week in a Far East Dallas neighborhood. Grisham missed when he fired his gun. No one was physically hurt.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia addressed reporters Wednesday.
鈥淎fter watching the body cam footage, I have some concerns about the tactics which led to this shooting,鈥 Garcia said. 鈥淎s I鈥檝e said many times ... when we鈥檙e right, we鈥檙e right; when we stumble, we need to hold ourselves accountable.鈥
On Sept. 2, officers responded to reports a group of men were smoking, drinking and shooting a gun in the air on Rustown Drive, according to the department. A second 911 call described the man with the gun as Latino, with a beard and wearing an orange shirt.
When Grisham arrived, he saw a man who matched the 911 caller鈥檚 description, pursued him down an alley and told him to put his hands up. Grisham then shot at him.
In a press release, the department said the person was interviewed after the event, but was not arrested or charged with a crime.
Police did not find weapons on the man or at the scene.
Both an internal and grand jury investigation are underway, Garcia said. Placing officers on administrative leave during such an investigation is standard policy, according to the department.
