The Texas-based health care system鈥檚 has been coordinating with the Baptist World Alliance and the European Baptist Federation to ensure the packages end up in countries taking in displaced Ukrainians, such as Poland and Hungary.
Matthew Hoffman, director of Faith in Action, said he recently spoke with pastors in Ukraine.
鈥淛ust hearing their first-hand reports, it was both heartbreaking and also inspiring,鈥 Hoffman said. 鈥淭o hear of their love for their country, their love for freedom and their love for the people that they were going to be caring for.鈥
Since Russia鈥檚 invasion of Ukraine, Hoffman said volunteers and staff have been busy putting together palettes of medical supplies, nonperishable food items and hygiene kits. He said some of the supplies come from hospitals within the Baylor Scott & White system as well as from medical centers outside of Baylor鈥檚 network.
鈥淭here鈥檚 many times where there are items that are donated because they were overstocked or they might be classified as obsolete, but they鈥檙e still perfectly good,鈥 Hoffman said. 鈥淚nstead of those things ending up in a local landfill, we鈥檙e taking those, sorting them, processing them and putting them into the hands of good people doing good work.鈥
Hoffman said anyone interested in volunteering or donating supplies can call at 214-818-1080.
