Three people including a Dallas ISD student were among those hospitalized when a gunman opened fire inside a downtown Dallas apartment building Thursday afternoon, police and school officials said.
Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a call at The Continental apartments at 1810 Commerce St. just after noon Thursday, a spokesperson for the department said.
All three victims were taken to the hospital, according to a Dallas police lieutenant at the scene. Neither the Dallas Police Department nor Dallas Fire-Rescue provided details on the victims' conditions.
Dallas ISD confirmed one of the victims was a student, but did not provide any further details in an email to 四虎影院. The student is expected to make a full recovery.
Police said they had no information on a suspect.
Dayana Bailey, 54, said she was in her eighth-floor apartment when she heard 鈥渧ery loud鈥 rapid gunshots followed by screaming. Bailey ran into her closet to hide and called 911.
Police later came to Bailey鈥檚 apartment to evacuate her from the building. She said as officers rushed her out, she saw blood everywhere 鈥 in the hallway, in the elevators, on the floor. But that wasn鈥檛 the worst part.
鈥淚t was the screeching,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t terrified my soul and my spirit.鈥
Mari Ann Ross lives on the same floor. The 73-year-old said she was leaving her apartment to go to the cleaners, but she turned around to get her laundry from her bedroom. That鈥檚 when the gunshots rang out, she said.
She, too, saw drops of blood across the floor and a wall riddled with bullet holes near the apartment where the shooting took place.
鈥淚 would have never thought that I would experience something like this,鈥 she said.
