Early Voting Starts In State Senate Runoff

The race pits two conservative candidates against each other.

Early voting starts Wednesday in the special runoff election for State Senate District 30, a large rural district currently represented by Republican Pat Fallon, who鈥檚 headed to Congress.

The district covers .

The runoff candidates are Republicans Shelley Luther and Drew Springer. Luther generated headlines when she went to jail temporarily after reopening her salon against Governor Greg Abbott鈥檚 order. She became a symbol for Republicans angry with government-mandated business closures in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.

Springer is a state Representative whose House district surrounds 鈥 but doesn鈥檛 include 鈥 Wichita Falls. He has a business background and Abbott鈥檚 endorsement. The governor calls him a 鈥減roven conservative鈥 who has the backing of the National Rifle Association.

Election Day is Dec. 19.

The winner will join 30 other state Senators in Texas for the upcoming Legislative session. Find the name of your local representative .
