Jasmine Crockett awaits results at her election watch party in downtown Dallas Tuesday.

Candidates would face off in a runoff election in May.

As results trickled in Tuesday evening, Jasmine Crockett was hoping to avoid a runoff in the Democratic primary for Texas' 30th Congressional District. Now, it's likely Crockett will face Jane Hope Hamilton in a runoff election in May, according to from the Texas Secretary of State's office.

鈥淚鈥檓 going to continue to focus on the issues because the issues are great, and that鈥檚 what the people deserve," Crockett said at a watch party in Dallas on Tuesday. "So I think that we can hopefully refocus people and get back to just kind of focusing on them and the work that needs to be done.鈥

Crockett, a Dallas attorney, currently serves as a representative in the Texas House. Her likely runoff opponent, Jane Hope Hamilton, is a former congressional chief of staff.

The runoff election is scheduled for May 24. Crockett said she hopes to unite North Texas Democrats in the weeks ahead.

鈥淭here are definitely people in this race that I want to have conversations with, want to see if I can earn their support going forward and really come together, because that鈥檚 what it鈥檚 about," Crockett said.
