Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi waves to fans during the second half of the team's Leagues Cup soccer match against Orlando City, Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

If you struck out on nabbing tickets for this weekend鈥檚 Leagues Cup match between FC Dallas and Inter Miami FC, you鈥檙e far from alone.

General admission to Sunday鈥檚 event at the 20,000-seat Toyota Stadium sold out Thursday morning in about 10 minutes 鈥 a record, said FC Dallas president Dan Hunt.

He said the presence of Argentinian star player Lionel Messi 鈥 playing his first U.S. leagues away game 鈥 is raising excitement for fans and players. Messi led his country to a World Cup win last year before joining Major League Soccer.

鈥淲e have two Argentinian players here, Facundo Quign贸n and Alan Velasco, and both of those players, obviously, I could see it in their face after the game,鈥 Hunt said. 鈥淭hey are so excited to have an opportunity to face fellow countrymen and arguably the greatest of all time.鈥

You can still attend Sunday鈥檚 match in Frisco if you have a spare $20,000 lying around 鈥 that鈥檚 how much tickets on the secondary market were reaching. The match will also air on Apple TV.
