Judges who decline to perform weddings based on their religious beliefs won't be violating state rules on judicial impartiality, the Texas Supreme Court said in a comment added to the state judicial conduct code Friday.

The justices still won't decide whether a state judicial commission violated a Waco judge's religious freedom by publicly warning her for refusing to marry gay couples.

Texans will chair some powerful committees in the House, but their roles in top leadership elections last week were more often as anti-establishment voices than contenders.
