State Rep. Jeff Leach accused the Texas Senate of weakening a bill aimed at banning nondisclosure agreements for child sexual abuse cases.

The hearing included emotional testimony from Cindy Clemishire, who accused Southlake megachurch pastor Robert Morris of sexually abusing her as a child in the 1980s 鈥� allegations Morris has since been indicted on.

The Criminal Jurisprudence Committee plans to issue a new subpoena to the death row inmate for a Dec. 20 hearing if Attorney General Ken Paxton鈥檚 office does not cooperate.

The Texas Supreme Court is considering whether a legislative subpoena of a death row inmate infringed on the executive branch鈥檚 power to carry out the execution.

The AG also said he鈥檇 make a criminal referral against the lawmaker, who apologized for texting a Court of Criminal Appeals judge about a new trial for the death row inmate.

Leach, one of the driving forces behind the effort to stop Roberson鈥檚 execution, later apologized to the judge, who told the lawmaker there were still pending matters before the court.
