A 30-year-old water tower no longer serves as a Plano landmark after a demolition crew "tipped" the structure Monday morning.
The obsolete giant had to make way for Legacy West, "an exciting new development, which will include shops, restaurants, residential living, a high-rise hotel and the Liberty Mutual Insurance campus," according to a .
The tower, which hadn't been used since 2010, stood near Highway 121 and the Dallas North Tollway. It was tipped -- cut at the base, like a tree -- by Demolition, Inc. of Romeo, Michigan.

Editor's note: The City of Plano's press release said the tower was 900-feet-tall, but it is actually 178 feet.
