Top Stories: Military Spouses Face High Unemployment, Low Pay

The top local stories this morning from ËÄ»¢Ó°Ôº: has found that military spouses face a higher unemployment rate than the national average. Spouses face frequent moves, deployments and erratic schedules of their military partners.

The study was commissioned by Blue Star Families, a group that coordinates services for military families. It found that military spouses have an unemployment rate of about 18 percent. That’s higher than last month’s national unemployment rate of 5 percent.

It’s also estimated that those with a bachelor’s degree earn 40 percent less than their civilian counterparts. Texas has the second-largest veteran population in the country.
