Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Charles Grassley of Iowa want to bolster federal databases to make it easier to notify law enforcement if someone under investigation as a terrorist in recent years tries to buy a firearm.
These and two Democratic measures up for consideration today have failed in previous votes after mass shootings. None is expected to get the 60 votes needed to pass.
