Top Stories: The Dallas Police Fire And Pension Fund Needs A Lot Of Help

The top local stories this afternoon from ËÄ»¢Ó°Ôº News: There’s a fear in Dallas that unfunded liabilities at the Dallas Police and Fire pension system fund could bankrupt the city. The plan’s reportedly $7 billion in debt, and if a court ordered the city to cover that debt, it couldn’t.

  • The Texas Board of Education unanimously rejected a Mexican-American studies textbook last week – a book that experts say is filled with factual errors and stereotypes. Erika Beltran is a Democrat of Fort Worth and a State Board of Education member, and talks about what led to the rejection of the textbook in Texas.
  • Fort Worth Symphony musicians have been on strike since September and the orchestra has canceled all concerts through the end of this year. ËÄ»¢Ó°Ôºâ€™s Bill Zeeble asked some arts leaders and concert goers what the strike means to them and the city.
