City Manager Announces Dallas Police Chief Candidates From North Texas And Across U.S.

Update, July 3: Grand Prairie Police Chief Steve Dye , leaving seven candidates to interview.

Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax on Wednesday released a list of police chief candidates.

The eight candidates, who will participate in interviews next month, include three members of the Dallas Police Department and the Grand Prairie police chief. Other candidates serve police forces across the country. 

Here's the list:

  • , Deputy Chief, Seattle Police Department
  • , Deputy Chief, Detroit Police Department
  • , First Assistant Chief, Los Angeles Police Department
  • , Assistant Chief, Montgomery County (Maryland) Police Department
  • , Assistant Chief, Dallas Police Department
  • , Deputy Chief, Dallas Police Department

One of these candidates will replace Interim Dallas Police Chief . He took the reins from David Brown, who after 33 years on the force. 

Candidates will begin a three-day interview process, starting July 10. Broadnax has assembled five panels of various community stakeholders and partners, who will participate in the interviews.

On the first day, candidates will tour police facilities and parts of Dallas and will attend a reception that evening with key community stakeholders.

Panel interviews begin July 11. Candidates will talk with partners in the law enforcement community, religious leaders, members of various police associations, advocates who lead police support groups and other neighborhood and community leaders, according to the city manager’s office.

The day will conclude with a citizen meet and greet at Dallas City Hall.

Candidates will interview with Broadnax’s staff on  July 13. Broadnax will determine next steps after the interview process ends.
