The Dallas Cowboys are taking pledges for The Salvation Army during their practice Thursday night to support Harvey relief efforts.
Before Wednesday, the Cowboys were scheduled to take on the Texans at AT&T Stadium in their final preseason game, which had been moved from Houston because of widespread flooding. The decision to cancel altogether was made when the Texans said local authorities had found a safe route for the team to drive the 250 miles home.
"When it became available to us, we've got so many guys on the team that are distracted by all the events and the circumstances that it became increasingly more difficult from our perspective to go out and try to play a football game," general manager Rick Smith told the Associated Press Wednesday.
The Cowboys and to help out their rivals. During the their practice from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Dallas players will participate in a live telethon, taking calls from fans for charitable donations. Cowboys alumni will also be manning the phones.
