Thousands crossed the finish line Sunday at the 47th annual . But the final stretch for the female marathon champion is one she 鈥� and spectators 鈥� won鈥檛 forget.
Chandler Self, who grew up in Texas and now lives in New York, started collapsing in the final half-mile, reported. Ariana Luterman, a high school runner from Greenhill Academy, ran with Self the final two miles. In the last 200 yards, she repeatedly helped Self to her feet. Aid was rushed to her after she tore through the banner. It's unclear what caused her to struggle.
She finished with a time of 2:53:58.

In the male category, Keith Pierce defended his , but with a faster time of 2:27:17. The half marathon winners were Colby Mehmen at 1:06:54 and Brooke Slayman at 1:19:18.
