One person was killed after a plane bound for Dallas and had to make an emergency landing in Philadelphia.
Southwest Airlines Flight 1380 had left New York's LaGuardia Airport this morning and was on its way to Dallas Love Field.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the flight crew reported damage to one of the plane鈥檚 engines, as well as the fuselage and at least one window. Seven others were treated for minor injuries. The Dallas-based airline says there were 143 passengers and five crew members on board.
Southwest Chairman and CEO Gary Kelly expressed condolences in a video posted online Tuesday afternoon. He said the company has launched an emergency response program, and will continue to post regular updates with additional information on all company channels.
鈥淭his is a sad day, and on behalf of the entire Southwest family, I want to express my deepest sympathies to the family and loved one of our deceased customer,鈥� Kelly said. 鈥淭hey are our immediate and primary concern, and we will do all we can to support them during this difficult time and the difficult days ahead.鈥�
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
