Managers of the state's largest electrical grid had predicted more record highs for power use as the extreme heat continues – and they were right.
ERCOT says power usage set new all-time records twice Thursday: a peak of more than 72,000 megawatts between 3 and 4 p.m. Usage then topped 73,000 an hour later.
That usage shattered the power demand record Texans set just the day before.
A statement from ERCOT said operators, generators, transmission providers and retailers are "doing what they can to keep the power on for consumers."

- Operators of the for-profit Argosy University will shut down its Farmers Branch campus at the end of the year. The Dallas Morning News reports Dream Center Education Holdings, or DCEH, this month said low demand for offerings at the campus have made it "unsustainable." A statement from Anne Dean with Argosy said officials are working with students on options. Those could include continuing studies at the Farmers Branch campus through December, through the DCEH online program or at another DCEH campus.
