A person with direct knowledge of the decision says the Dallas Cowboys and Mike McCarthy have agreed on a deal for the former Green Bay coach to replace Jason Garrett.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday because the Cowboys haven鈥檛 announced the hiring.
McCarthy interviewed over the weekend before the Cowboys had announced Garrett wasn鈥檛 returning. Garrett had an expiring contract coming off a make-or-break season that ended with Dallas missing the playoffs for the sixth time in his nine full seasons.

The 56-year-old McCarthy won a Super Bowl with the Packers on the Cowboys鈥� home field nine years ago. Green Bay made nine trips to the playoffs in his 13 years. The Packers won at least 10 games in eight of his first 11 seasons before going 7-9 in 2017. He was fired with the Packers at 4-7-1 last season.
With two-time MVP Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback, McCarthy went 125-77-2 in the regular season in 12-plus seasons with the Packers. McCarthy鈥檚 teams made the playoffs nine times, going 10-8. Two of those wins were over Dallas.
