DART is planning to expand its route network in hopes of increasing ridership and accessibility across Dallas. New and existing crosstown routes will receive improved service frequency and easier payment options, decreasing wait, walking and transfer times.
The plan to overhaul the transit system is slated to roll out in January.
Areas such as Inland Port, located in south Dallas, are already benefiting from this expansion with a reported 50% rider increase since the start of the expansion.
, DART’s on-demand shuttle service, will increase coverage to 13 new areas such as Mountain Creek, Far N. Plano, and Cypress Waters.
Contactless payment options such as DART’s will also become more accessible as the expansion continues.
Riders will be able to take advantage of services like Fare Cap, which assures riders who use a GoPass card will never pay for more than the price of a $96 monthly pass — 16 rides — even if they ride the bus more than that in a single month. Riders using their GoPass account or GoPass card will be able to use this service right away.
Existing areas such as Rylie, Lake Highlands, and Farmers Branch will also receive expanded and more frequent service, increasing accessibility to public transit.
More changes are expected to launch in January 2022.
