The top local stories this morning from ËÄ»¢Ó°Ôº: Fort Worth residents spoke out at a forum last night about the school district’s guidelines on restrooms for transgender students.
The guidelines direct school staff to respect students’ gender identity and make adjustments for their safety – like offering the use of a single-stall restroom or a restroom where other students are not present.
Several people at the forum at Dunbar High School said the district guidelines go too far and that transgender students should not receive special accommodations.
Fort Worth ISD said the guidelines were written to help schools comply with a 2011 nondiscrimination policy that includes gender identity and expression.
Five more forums are scheduled around Fort Worth. The next one begins tonight at 7 at Polytechnic High School.
