The Dallas police department says it plans on , more than the $17 million budgeted.

City officials are working to find leftover money in the budget to cover the costs.

  • The Arlington City Council is scheduled for a final vote tonight for an election to decide whether to redirect some taxes to pay for a new Texas Rangers ballpark. The proposed billion-dollar project would have a retractable roof and air conditioning.
  • Two North Texas universities recently decided to shut down their evening law school programs. SMU and Texas A&M in Fort Worth cite dwindling enrollment.
  • The UNT Dallas law school program is in danger of from the American Bar Association. The association is concerned in part by the school enrolling students with low LSAT scores – and placing those students at risk of not passing the state bar exam.
