David Chappelle won the Grand Prairie City Council District 3 seat with 64.9% of the vote, Saturday night.
He will fill the seat most recently held by Mike Del Bosque, who died in March. The seat has been vacant in the interim.
Chappelle told ËÄ»¢Ó°Ôº in an interview after results rolled in that he ran to help his district "keep pace with how great Grand Prairie is doing as a whole." This was his first time seeking political office.
"I'm excited to be able to step into this position and serve the city to a great capacity," he said.
Chappelle said he has hope for the city and district.
"We worked very hard on this campaign, but we were blessed and able to listen to a lot of the concerns that residents had. And we have great hope."
Chappelle's opponent, Amber Timberlake, did not immediately respond to an email for comment.
Chappelle will hold the seat for three years.
Turnout was low for this election, with only a few hundred ballots cast as of Saturday night. The around 209,000.
